Research consistently shows that online therapy can be as effective as traditional in-person therapy. of course, there are exceptions where online therapy is not recommended.
Online therapy can save you money and time because you don’t have to factor in the duration and cost of travelling to and from therapy sessions. There are also fewer overhead costs for me (office rent, commute, etc.) which makes online therapy more affordable for you.
Online therapy can make therapy more accessible and convenient for you, especially if your job involves irregular hours or a lot of travelling, if you don't have childcare, have restricted mobility or live in remote areas.
Fitting therapy in around work and family responsibilities can be a real challenge. Online therapy can give you the flexibility to have therapy on a schedule that fits your life.
Having therapy online can be more private than traditional in-person sessions. There is no chance of bumping into someone you know on the premises where therapy takes place.
Talking about sex isn't easy for many. It's sensitive, personal. Having therapy in the comfort of your own space can make you feel safe, less anxious, more relaxed and in control of the process.
While online therapy can be as effective as in-person therapy, it has limitations and may not be suitable for some people and some situations. For example, it may not be suitable for people who have serious mental illnesses, or those in acute crisis or feeling suicidal, or people in domestically violent relationships.
In your initial consultation, l check whether online therapy is a suitable option for you. We also check technology and agree on what to do in the event of a technical problem. Online sessions are conducted via Zoom, FaceTime, Skype, telephone, or other secure methods.
You need to ensure you can be online at the appointed time, in a quiet space where you are not interrupted or overheard. If you need to reschedule or cancel (and have a full refund) for any reason, just give me 24 hours notice.
If you are interested in working remotely with me, please email me at SexTherapy@cantab.net or call me on 01223 653962 or 07515342585. I get back to you in less than 12 hours.
Via email (SexTherapy@cantab.net) or phone (01223 653962 or 07515342585), we first agree on a convenient date and time for your first session, which is an assessment. This appointment is then provisionally booked for you.
I then email you my Therapy Agreement, which you read, fill in, sign and email back to me. You can also complete and submit the Therapy Agreement online.
Payments for therapy sessions are received in advance by PayPal (You can check out as a guest if you don't have a PayPal account). You receive a full refund if you cancel your session giving a 24-hour notice.
Once I receive your completed and signed Therapy Agreement and the payment, the slot is secured for you. I send you a text/email confirming your appointment and joining instructions.
I contact you, and we meet for your appointment. You can have your session audio-only if you feel more comfortable.
